Before joining CRISP, Jan worked with the German government on European foreign policy and security cooperation. Work has also brought him to Sudan, Tunisia, and Israel. His time with the EU delegation in Khartoum had an especially strong impact on him, which is why he wants to support promising peace initiatives, both, in the small grassroots scale and through strengthened multilateralism.
One of his major areas ofexpertise is interpersonal conflict dynamics and their impact on group conflict.Jan also works as non-partisan conflict mediator in Germany. Here, he helps private parties such as families, colleagues and neighbors to foster mutual understanding and resolve their conflicts. This job helps Jan to enrich CRISP projects and trainings.
Jan holds an MA in International Affairs with a Minor in Security and Development from the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin and a BA in European Studies from Maastricht University. During his studies, he conducted research on conflict analysis, democratization, and multi-level governance in areas of limited statehood.
