CRISP - Project

Project

Social Dialogue Ambassadors

In recent years, Kenya has increasingly faced the challenge of youth radicalization and violent extremism, especially in areas with a Muslim majority. This pilot project will make a measurable contribution to these challenges by employing a multitrack approach that combines a community based, locally focused problem solving strategy and engaging government officials and other track one stakeholders in the process.

Target Group

The primary groups are representatives of CSOs working on CVE (Countering Violent Extremism). Student/pupils in formal schools and madrassas who participate in the workshops on the local level will hence also be part of our primary target groups. The secondary groups are youth groups, stakeholders, schools and entire population of the target areas who will benefit from the changes of attitude and behavior of the primary groups. Other target groups include policy/decision-makers in the education sector, county governments, the Senate and National Assembly Committees on Education and Counter-Terrorism Agencies.

Project Goals

The goal of the project is to build trust, networks and capacities of community-based organizations in conflict resolution and peace education in six eastern counties of Kenya. Local civil society resilience against extremism and radicalization of youth will thus be strengthened. Decision makers will be provided with quality research regarding causes of religious extremism in the targeted counties as well as with recommendations derived from the analyses that, if taken into consideration, will also lead to structural change.
