ASEAN 2020 – Simulating Regional Integration

In cooperation with the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and Konrad Adenauer Foundation we developed and implemented a simulation game on the future of regional integration in South East Asia.

Quick facts

DURATION

18.-21.04.2019

LOCATIONS

Hanoi, Vietnam

PARTICIPANTS

22 students from the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam
Project Goals / Content

The simulation is set in the year 2020, when the preparations for the 37th ASEAN summit are running at full speed. The participants took over the role of representatives of ASEAN members states and were asked to develop common statements on issues considered crucial for the future of the or-ganisation. Those included among others a reaction to an incident in the South China Sea as well as a new framework regulation for labour mobility.

Through this experience the participants not only got the unique chance to learn about current affairs within ASEAN in an interactive manner but also practiced their general skills in negotiations and public speech. Additionally, a capacity building component was implemented, during which staff members of DAV learned how to run the simulation independently in the future.

Target Groups

The simulation game participants were 22 students from the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV). The capacity building component included several staff member of DAV and local partner universities.
