Values at stake

This has never been done before: currently we are developing a simulation game that is aiming to promote a more value-based behavior among people in Egypt. After developing the „Vision for Egypt 2025“ our main goal became to encourage others to follow these main values: Humanity, Equality, Honesty, Justice und Freedom.

We want to contribute to a realization of these values via different local initiatives in 15 governorates, but also unsurprisingly, via a new simulation game. Over the last weeks, we had difficult discussions to what extent the mentioned values are challenging the status quo and if the future participants and we are actually ready to question the current value system in Egypt. Dominated by a patriarchic concept and neglecting basic rights of equality and freedom, the local environment is far away, from what we were imagining in the Vision for Egypt 2025.

As the members of the simulation gamers club (Nadi El Mohake) are extremely keen to develop and implement another simulation game, we started to work on the general setting, which will take place in an Egyptian village. The protagonists is an extended family, who’s patriarch is about to die and who has just revealed his will…out of a sudden the family finds out that on their lands some precious and valuable artefacts are located. This triggers numerous intra-family conflicts and furthermore challenges societal concepts, such as the dominance of male and others.

We plan to finish the development phase before Ramadan, in order to start nationwide implementation afterwards.
