Peace One Day 2019

Every year since 2001, people worldwide celebrate the United Nations’ International Day of Peace, promoting peaceful actions for non-violence.

International Day of Peaceis also an annual day of global ceasefire – personal or political – among all nations and peoples. A symbol of the day is a peace dove flying with an olive branch in its beak.

Figures show that 1.5 billion people know that 21 September is Peace Day, and millions of people get involved in various actions and events to celebrate. People light candles, plant trees, create and visit art exhibitions devoted to peace, join peace walks or meditation sessions. The map of all the events can be found here: https://internationaldayofpeace.org/event-map/

This year’s main theme is “Climate Action for Peace”. Climate change is Sustainable Development Goal 13, and the UN drives attention to actions needed to address this issue. Natural disasters displace three times as many people as conflicts, forcing millions to leave their homes and seek safety elsewhere. The growing tensions over resources and mass movements of people are affecting every country on every continent. Therefore, our affordable, scalable solutions can bring us closer to peace.

So let’s all work for peace everyday!
